Summary

The newly-releasedRatchet and Clank: Rift ApartPC port is verified to run on Steam Deck, as confirmed by developer Insomniac. The beloved duo of Ratchet and Clank made their triumphant return on the PlayStation 5 in the summer of 2021 withRift Apart, a blockbuster shooter-platformer that highlighted the technical possibilities of Sony’s newest console while introducing fans to new characters like Rivet and Kit. While the game was initially exclusive to the PS5, Sony announced thatRift Apartwould be coming to PCby way of Nixxes Software back in May.

This announcement raised many eyebrows, particularly due to Insomniac’s past assertions thatRift Apart’s detailed graphics and complicated in-game environments were only possible thanks to the PlayStation 5’s ultra-fast Solid-State Drive. However,Rift Apart’s PC port is getting around this issueusing cutting-edge technology like DirectStorage 1.2 with GPU decompression, allowing the game to run on regular HDDs without compromisingRift Apart’s stunning visuals and novel dimension-hopping gameplay mechanics.

As it turns out,Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apartcan also run on the Steam Deck. Insomniac confirmed this on its official Twitter account the day beforeRift Apart’s PC port launched on July 26. For a game to beverified for Steam Deck, it has to meet four requirements: have full controller support with appropriate on-screen input icons and an automatic on-screen keyboard when needed, support the standard Steam Deck resolution (1280×800 or 1280×720) with good default settings and legible text, run without any compatibility warnings, and be fully supported by Proton when applicable.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s PC port is just the latest in an ongoing effort by PlayStation to branch out into the PC gaming landscape by re-releasing some of its biggest first-party hits. Titles likeDeath Stranding,Horizon: Zero Dawn, and the 2018God of Wargame were ported to PCto warm receptions, as were Insomniac’s ownMarvel’s Spider-Man RemasteredandSpider-Man: Miles Morales. WithRift Apartnow joining this list, fans ofRatchet and Clankare hoping to see more of the lovable duo’s past adventures cross over to PC - such as the 2016Ratchet and Clankgame.
