Even though shooter games are very popular on Steam and games are often the most popular around launch,Redfallhas peaked at just 6,124 concurrent playerse so far. Of course, it’s worth pointing out that Steam is not the full picture when it comes toRedfall’s player count.Redfallis also available on Xbox consoles and is in fact a day one Xbox Game Pass game.Redfallbeing on Game Passmeans that the majority of those playing on PC could be checking it out through that instead of Steam, but the game’s Steam player count is still cause for concern.
ComparingRedfall’s peak player count to other big Xbox games does not paint a pretty picture.Forza Horizon 5’s peak player count on Steam was over 81,000, whileHalo Infinitehad over 272,000, though admittedly had the advantage of its multiplayer being free-to-play.Hi-Fi Rush, the acclaimed new action game from Tango Gameworks that released to critical acclaim earlier this year, has alsoedged outRedfall’s peak concurrent player count on Steamso far, though just barely. Arkane’s previous game,Deathloop, had a 20,094 peak concurrent player count, though it did have the benefit of not releasing as a day one Game Pass game.Atomic Heart, a day one Game Pass game and new IP from an unproven studio, had over 38,000 for its peak concurrent player count. The numbers show that even when games are on Xbox Game Pass, they can still draw big numbers on Steam, butRedfallhas failed to do so.
Thenegativity surroundingRedfallisn’t going to do it any favors, but there’s always a chance that the game could have a comeback. There have been multiple cases of games launching in poor states only to turn things around through updates and DLC.Redfallupdates will hopefully address the game’s many technical issues and general performance problems, and that in turn could draw more players in, but fans will have to wait and see what happens.
Right now,Redfallhas Mostly Negative reviews on Steam. It’s entirely possible it will eventually bounce back like other games have done over the years, but Arkane certainly has a steep hill to climb.
Redfallis out now for PC and Xbox Series X.
