TheResident Evil 4 Remakethrows many enemies at players early on. As Leon makes his way to the village,he’ll be forced to contend with a large group of Plaga-infected people. These enemies can quickly close the gap on the hero. Some of them will run at him with pitchforks or throw axes from range. Thankfully,it’s possible for Leon to parry some of their attacks, which will also stun them and leave them vulnerable to a hard-hitting melee attack. Although the in-game tutorial eventually explains how to Parry, it can be an invaluable tool early on to help make it past some of the larger groups of villagers, especially those that are hidden around corners and in other obscured areas.

Here’s a look at how players can Parry in theResident Evil 4 Remake.

How To Parry In Resident Evil 4 Remake

In order to Parry an attack, players will need to hit the Parry Button right before an attack or projectile hits Leon. The Parry Button is default set to L1 on PlayStation, LB on Xbox, or Space Bar on PC. Sometimes, the game will give players a flashing prompt near the center or bottom of the screen when they are capable of parrying, but players shouldn’t wait for this prompt as sometimes it doesn’t appear. If Leon successfully parries an attack, there will be a loud metal-clashing sound and the enemy that attacked will be sent reeling backward (unless it was a thrown projectile, in which the projectile will simply deflect away from Leon, and he will take no damage).

In many instances, when players successfully Parry, it will leave the enemy momentarily stunned, and they will be able to follow up by moving closer to the enemy and hitting the X Button (A Button Xbox / F Key on PC). Doing so will hit the enemy with a strong Melee attack that will knock them to the ground, giving Leon a chance to escape or an opportunity todish out more damage with a ranged weaponor knife. It’s important to note that some enemies do not stagger after a single parryand players will need to keep their wits about them when parrying as some enemies will attack multiple times.Certain enemy attacks cannot be parriedand must be avoided or evaded.

Understanding Knife Durability

In order for Leon to Parry an attack, he must have a Knife. As Leon deflects projectiles, parries enemies, and even executes them via stealth, his knife will take damage. After a certain amount of damage is received, the knife will break. Leon starts the game with the Combat Knife but canpick up other knives during his journey(like Kitchen Knives and Boot Knives). As long as players have a Knife (that isn’t broken) in their inventory, they will automatically have it equipped and be able to Parry.

Knives that are picked up will vanish once they break, butLeon can repair his Combat Knife by visiting the Merchant and selecting the Tune-Up option. Players can also upgrade the Combat Knife’s durability at the Merchant, allowing Leon to use it more before it eventually breaks.
