Resident Evil 3 Remakeis just days away from its April 3 launch date, but energy is already buzzing regarding what Capcom’s working on next. Just recently, a leaker known for decently reliable Capcom rumors revealed that the studio is working on a newResident Evilgame for release in 2021. They’ve since shared more information about the newResident Evilgame and its development. To put it simply, the leaker says that the newResident Evilgame is “a lot stranger” than anyone may be expecting.
In a series of posts made today, leaker AestheticGamer replied to some questions regarding their previous leaks. Previously, the leaker had describedResident Evil 2021as the “biggest departure the series has ever taken” and that they “expect a lot of people will be pissed” when Capcom announces it. The leaker’s response was to clarify those comments somewhat, as some online denizens, as they’re wont to do, took the leaks in the worst way.

Referring to their previous tweets, the leaker clarified that people won’t be pissed becauseResident Evil 2021is a “looter shooter, battle royale game, or anything like that.” They state that the newResident Evilisn’t “chasing modern trends.” Their intention is to sateCapcom fans' worrythat Capcom is trying redirecting the franchise to be more consumer-friendly.
The leaker makes clear that the opposite seems more accurate. Rather than “chase” a trend that may be more consumer-friendly,Capcomis making something “a lot stranger than that.” The leaker doesn’t elaborate on that point, unfortunately, leaving fans to speculate even more about what Capcom what might be making.
The most obvious assumption is that Capcom’s exploring a different genre forResident Evil.If it was making just another third-person or first-person shooter/horror game then no one would think it was strange. But if Capcom’s making an RPG or anopen-world game, for instance, that would indeed be very strange.
According to AestheticGamer, Capcom fans won’t have to wait very long to find out what the studio has planned. In their initial leak, they said thatmore onResident Evil 2021could come within the next month.Obviously, plans may change. And more plans are changing now than would be normal due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so fans should keep that in mind.
Resident Evil 2021isn’t officially announced and has no release date or confirmed platforms.
