It is safe to say that battle royales are one of the biggest genres in the video game industry. Over the past couple of years, the amount of games available to play in the category has exploded. A few examples of battle royale games on the market include heavy hitters likeApex Legends,Fortnite,Call of Duty: Warzone, andFall Guys. As a result of this impressive lineup, the genre has attracted not only numerous gamers but has also caught the attention of a large number of content creators, such asTwitchstreamer Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek.
While Shroud might have started out playingprofessionalCS:GOfor teams like Cloud9, his career took off once he started streaming battle royale titles such asPlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Using his pinpoint accuracy, he became well-known for his skill competing in these last man standing style of games. While many fans continue to enjoy watching him play these titles, shroud often plays whatever he feels like checking out. And recently, it appears that his passion for battle royales has burnt out, leaving him with some interesting opinions about the popular genre.

During a recentApex Legendsstream, shroud talked about how he no longer found battle royale games enjoyable. While playing the game, he made it clear that he was not having a great time. According to the streamer, there was nothing inherently wrong withApex Legends. Instead, he revealed he was just bored of playing battle royales and would rather beplaying games likeValorant. “I think they’re boring,” he said about battle royale games during his broadcast. He went further, stating that the format for the genre needed to be changed.
While shroud said that he found battle royale games boring, he did provide an idea for making them better. According to theTwitchstreamer, the randomness of the looting system annoyed him. While he admitted that he had liked the format in the past, it had become fatiguing. Instead, he suggested the system would be better if everyone in the lobby kept the same loadout throughout the game. He said that was much more appealing to him and would make him consider wanting to play games in the genre again.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for shroud. Recently, the streamer has been playing a lot of MMORPGs,such asLost ArkandNew World. Perhaps, a new battle royale will release in the coming months that will look to change up the formula enough to entice the Twitch streamer back into the genre. Until that happens, it seems that he will probably not be playing many battle royale games for the foreseeable future.
