It’s not super often that new IPs are able to succeed in today’s video game market. However,Splitgatehas been able to break through the mold. In fact, the game has become so popular that developers havedelayed the release date forSplitgateto make sure the concurrent player base has adequate server stability and capacity in order to minimize wait times.
The co-founders of 1047 Games, the studio behindSplitgate, have stated in the past that one of their biggest inspirations for the game was thePortalandPortal 2games. During their college years at Stanford University, they played them a lot and felt that the mechanic could translate well to other genres. Using that idea, they decided to bring that mechanic into thecompetitive online shooter gamegenre and makeSplitgatethe standalone title it is today.

Luckily, the studio will be able to continue its dream of making new inventive IPs. Today, 1047 Games announced from the officialSplitgateTwitter account that it just surpassed its third round of funding and raised $100 million. The company explained that it will use the money to continue working onSplitgateand bring life to other “stale genres” that are otherwise dormant.
However, Ian Proulx, one of the co-founders, stated that this is a long-term goal. There are stillissues withSplitgatethat the company needs to address before they would consider moving on to a new title. Although, this fundraising goal should prove to be more than enough to meet both the company’s short-term and long-term goals.
Luckily, the studio is rapidly upscaling in every department to make sure this reality happens as soon as possible. In addition, the studio’s lead investment company, Lightspeed Venture Partners, has stated that it is impressed with how much 1047 Games has been able to do with such little funding. Lightspeed prides itself on investing in companies that have bold visions for innovation and are excited to see what else1047 Gameswill achieve with more funding.
Hopefully, 1047 Games will be able to achieve its dreams and bringSplitgateto even greater heights. The team has shown its dedication to its craft and loyal fans, so that would be well deserved. There are already plans for a next-generation upgrade for the game, and talks about a Switch and mobile version. With all this possibility of expansion, it is likely thatSplitgatecould soon be a major contenter in the shooter genre.
Splitgateis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
