Summary

At first glance, it would not seem likeStarfieldand theStar Wars Jediseries would have anything in common. One is a massive sci-fi RPG that whisks players away to a brand-new universe while the other is an action-adventure series set within one of the biggest IPs around. They are both great space-faring adventures, albeit vastly different experiences. However, it does seem likeStarfieldmay have taken some cues fromStar Wars: Jedi’s unique outfits.

While the focus ofStarfieldand theStar Wars Jediseries is mostly on sci-fi action, players also spend a lot of their time designing their perfect character. Specifically, they are able to gather countless outfits to make their character look as fancy as possible in the face of death. ForStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, those outfits mostly come in the form ofcolorful ponchos that Cal Kestis can wear. When it comes toStarfield, Bethesda may have filled the game with countless outfits to collect, but one of them also seems to come straight fromStar Wars: Jedi, and that is great to see.

Starfield is Following in Star Wars Jedi’s Footsteps

Starfield’s primary focus is on letting players decide who they want to be in a vast galaxy. They are given all the tools to design their protagonist before being sent out into the stars to tell their own story. It is truly an RPG sandbox that players will likely get lost in for years to come. Because of this approach, Bethesda has also filled the game with cosmetic goodies for players to collect. These goodies come in the form of ship parts, spacesuits, and numerous outfits waiting to be worn.

Star Wars Jediis more focused on telling a canon story inthe greaterStar Warsfranchise, but it also lets players collect various cosmetic goodies along their journey. These items come in the form of BD-1 paint jobs, ship skins, and even lightsaber parts. Perhaps, one of the most popular cosmetic items is Cal Kestis' many ponchos. Collecting a massive assortment of ponchos was one of the highlights ofStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and it seems likeStarfieldmay have followed suit.

WhileStarfield’s outfits come in many forms, there also seems to be a poncho for players to collect. This poncho can be purchased from various vendors or discovered in different areas across the galaxy. At first glance, it looks like nothing more than a simple Western-style cosmetic for players to wear. However, upon further inspection, someStar Wars Jedifans may notice that it looks eerily similar tothe exact poncho Cal Kestis would wear.

Starfield’s Settler Poncho Outfit is an orange and black poncho that looks ripped straight out ofthe opening ofStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. In that game, Cal Kestis is also wearing an orange and black poncho, albeit with different patterns. While they may look different,Starfield’s version still feels like a nod to the popular Jedi. Some players have even used it to actually create Cal Kestis in theStarfielduniverse, which has led to a crossover no one saw coming.

There is a chance thatStarfield’s poncho is merrily a coincidence, but it seems more likely that Bethesda was referencingStar Warsin some way. It would be hard not to reference one of the biggest sci-fi franchises around, especially since Bethesda seems to love including Easter eggs for other media in its games. While the studio may never outright admit that the poncho came fromStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, fans of the franchise will likely never stop using it to create their very own Cal Kestis.

Starfieldis available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
