Summary

Bethesda has rolled out anotherStarfieldbeta update, which adds numerous fixes and improvements targeting various aspects of the hit RPG. This release is the game’s second November patch, arriving mere days afterStarfieldreceived the 1.8.84 beta update.

That last patch introducedStarfield’s previously promised support for Nvidia DLSS, a proprietary solution for AI-powered resolution upscaling that mimics high-res graphics with a lower performance footprint compared to native rendering. The update also added the long-awaited Eat command to the game, allowing players to consume food items and beverages straight from the environment instead of having to pick them up and then navigate through the inventory.

The RPG’s second beta patch of the month rolled out on November 10. This particular release doesn’t change the game’s version number, which remains at 1.8.84. And while that lack of a unique identifier implies that the update is on the modest end of the content spectrum, the patch still introduces no fewer than nine new fixes and improvements targeting various aspects ofStarfield.

The New Starfield Beta Update Improves Its DLSS Support

The majority of those changes appear to be geared toward optimizing the game’s DLSS support, which is said to be more stable and consistent on this latest beta version ofStarfield. An issue that occasionally led to black screens when using DLSS 3.0—which doesn’t just upscale resolution but also generates frames—is now said to be fixed, much like a known bug that would cause ghosting artifacts, blurry textures, or both to appear on character models. The patch also eliminates an issue that sometimes made extremely dark environments look distractingly oversharpened and grainy while using DLSS.

Bethesda’s initial implementation ofStarfield’s DLSS support also caused some unexpected problems with the game’s Display settings, like defaulting to the Quality DLSS mode when the player picked its Performance counterpart, and vice versa. The developer’s latest beta update resolves that problem, together with three other issues pertaining totheStarfieldUI. Finally, the patch also fixes a bug that occasionally made the camera too shaky during cutscenes involving Grav jumps, ship docking procedures, and other landing transitions.
