Content creator and VR figurehead Jak Wilmot is in the process of trying to spend a week in complete darkness, but a weird occurrence with his stream has some questioning the validity of the feat. Since Wilmot is in complete darkness he can’t acknowledge any questions about the attempt but members of the DisruptY2K38Twitchchannel’s mod team suggest everything is real.

This weekend a clip was shown online of Wilmot moving around in his makeshift “darkness bungalow.” At one point Wilmot moves to do something and the perspective shifts to a different camera, where he is suddenly seen sitting. Some took this to mean that Wilmot was playing clips of him doing various activities on loop and not actually spending the full time in total darkness.

However, closer investigation of the clip has seemingly confirmed that the clip is actually a still image that was frozen into the camera. Listening closely, viewers could hear Wilmot completing activities like running on a treadmill, which is what he was claiming to be doing when switching the camera.

The glitch happens around the 30:45:00 mark:

Ultimately, Wilmot won’t be able to answer any questions about what happened, but it seems that an unfortunate technology glitch raised some concerns that the attempt was fake. But for Wilmot, who is also the Co-Founder of VR studio DisruptVR, this is likely a frustrating situation that he isn’t even aware of yet.

Wilmot is well-known for trying to accomplish crazy (and potentially unhealthy) feats for the entertainment of his viewers. Not long ago he spent 24 hours wearing a VR headset to mimic the feeling of being in a Virtual Reality world. He then upped the ante and spent a whole week in a VR headset. There were several rules that he needed to adhere to as far as switching games and VR headsets (going fromOculusto a headset with a front-facing camera), but every daily activity was done with a headset on.

But while the VR headset connection makes sense for Wilmot’s position as Co-Founder of Disrupt VR, spending a week in total darkness is not. It seems the content creator side of things has taken over and Wilmot is pursuing a form of entertainment that is more based on shock value. Mr. Beast, for example, has found a lot of success through challenges that involve stretching the limits of the human body in exchange for exorbitant prizes like keeping one’s hand on money for days.
