There is no indiciation if or when players will see anotherSuper Smash Bros.game, but that hasn’t stopped them from showing their love for the highly popular series. One fan has designed a custom metalSuper Smash Bros.-inspired Nintendo Switch case that exudes the prestige of the franchise.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s final balancing patchcame in early December, marking the end of a game that so many have enjoyed over the last few years. For many it was the reason to own a Nintendo Switch, being able to fight as and against some of gaming’s most recognizable characters, especially faces like Steve fromMinecraftand Sora fromKingdom Hearts. With every entry, the series' director, Masahiro Sakurai has labelled it has the finalSuper Smash Bros.game, or at least the last one that he would be involved with. In a recent interview, Sakurai formally said that there aren’t any current plans for anotherSuper Smash Bros.game.

Many fan tributes exist out there, but this may be the cleanest one yet, a fan welding a customSuper Smash Bros.cover for his Nintendo Switch dock. Destroyer1102 shared the piece on the official Nintendo Switch subreddit, to which it has over 6,500 upvotes and nearly a dozen awards. Cleverly, Destroyer1102 carved out theSuper Smash Bros.insigniainto the textured steel front piece of the dock cover so that when they put the white Nintendo Switch OLED dock inside, the Smash Ball design comes through brilliantly.

Despite the overwhelming praise, many were quick to call out the practicality of the piece as it may have unforeseen consequences. Metals like steel are known disruptors for signal transmissions, meaning Destroyer1102 likely has horrible to no WiFi connection to his Switch while its inside the metal dock case. To Destroyer1102’s credit, they write in response to someone asking about the signal strength, “I play with a Lan adapter so I haven’t actually checked before,” making this a pretty moot issue for them. Where previously a separate dongle was needed, theNintendo Switch OLED added a wired LAN portright into the dock, mitigating the issue considerably.

One of the most popular ways Nintendo Switch users can personalize their console (besides buying new Joy-Con controllers) is customizing their dock. From aThe Witcherfan making “The Switcher” dock, complete with School of the Wolf emblems and runes, to the endless list of purchaseable stickers and decals, there are so many ways to trick out the Nintendo Switch dock. Destroyer1102 may have taken a much more technical and demanding route in modifying their dock, but the results show for themselves, it balancing as a nuanced yet striking piece to show theirSuper Smash Bros.fandom.
