Super Smash Bros. Ultimateversion 8.0.0 is here, and it brings with it not just thenew character, Min Min, but also a host of balance changes for existing characters. The patch notes are extensive, but for the most part they are very positive, with few characters receiving any kind of nerf and many getting buffed in some way.

Balance changes can really throw competitive play off inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, and some of these changes are sure to have that effect. That said, most of the buffs and nerfs are minor, so it doesn’t seem like that much will change. Still, it’s a good idea to read over the patch notes to see if one’s main has changed in any way.

Interestingly enough, the only character to get nerfed while receiving no buffs at all isPalutena, which probably isn’t a big deal since she’s consistently ranked in S Tier on tier lists. The only change made to her is some minor nerfs to her Final Smash anyway. Bayonetta received a lot of buffs but saw some minor nerfs to her Final Smash as well.

On the flip side, several characters received changes meant to put them more in line with other characters or things that aren’t obviously buffs or nerfs. Pit, Dark Pit, Ivysaur, Little Mac, Mega Man, Pacman, and Duck Hunt Dog all got changes to their basic movement so that it now “aligns with other fighters,” while fighters like Ike, Pit, and Dark Pit got reduced launch on their down tilts. While this may seem like a nerf at first glance, this could allow foreasier comboing out of these moves.

In terms of buffs, a lot of characters got only minor buffs to theirFinal Smash attacks, including Mario, Dr. Mario, Jigglypuff, Ice Climbers, Zero Suit Samus, Sonic, Olimar, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina & Luma, and Terry. The rest of the fighters appearing in the patch notes saw boons such as increased launch speed or power, decreased vulnerability on certain moves, and more accommodating hit boxes, making it easier to hit with certain moves or increasing the size of sweet spots.

Below are the general patch notes so players can see what changes have been made to their characters or the characters they hate fighting the most. As stated above, most of it is pretty minor, but there are some noticeable changes likeMarth’s tipper being easier to land.
