Summary

Based on the evidence available to players,Insomniac Gamesand Marvel seem to be a perfect pairing. While some fans are understandably concerned that Insomniac will essentially become a Marvel studio and startneglecting franchises likeRatchet and Clank, the developer is producing success after success with its Marvel content. All threeMarvel’s Spider-Mangames have been critically and commercially successful, and based on both the talent behind the project and its complex main character,Marvel’s Wolverineis likely to continue this incredible run. However, Insomniac doesn’t have to stop there.

Insomniac Gameshas already laid some groundwork for multiple Spidey-adjacent spin-offs, with Silk being a good candidate for a Miles Morales-style game and Insomniac itself implying that a standalone Venom game is a possibility. Fans have also argued that other characters like Black Cat are interesting enough to lead their own game, but beyond the Spider-Man mythos, Insomniac should consider adapting two characters that sparked quite the discussion inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2: Daredevil and Doctor Strange.

Daredevil and Doctor Strange Are Both Perfect Fits For Insomniac

How Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Sets Up Doctor Strange and Daredevil

Both intentionally and unintentionally, Insomniac Games has gotten Marvel fans talking about these two characters. In the case of Doctor Strange, the Sanctum Sanctorum features prominently in a standout story mission featuring Miles Morales and Black Cat, with the thief stealing an artifact from Doctor Strange’s home. While Wong is the one who reclaims the artifact, suggesting that Stephen Strange is either away on superhero business or has yet to become Sorceror Supreme, featuring the mystical side of Marvel in such a big way has fans hopeful that Insomniac wants to dive deeper into it. As for Daredevil, theNelson and Murdock sign confusionwas seemingly not part of its plan, but it has certainly gotten attention. Daredevil’s close connection to Spider-Man in recent years also has fans optimistic.

Both of these characters feel suitable for Insomniac Games for different reasons. In the case of Doctor Strange, Insomniac could leverage the portal tech it built forRatchet and Clank: Rift Apart, with theBlack Catmission only being a taste of what it could achieve. A lighthearted Strange adventure full of odd creatures and unique spells could provide memorable gameplay while targeting the same audience asMarvel’s Spider-Man. As for Daredevil, the character feels like a perfect fit for the Insomniac team that is currently working onMarvel’s Wolverine, as that portion of the studio will have experience with a more mature Marvel hero. In terms of combat, he could play like a more brutal Spider-Man, with similar (if far slower) traversal mechanics via his billy club.

If these proposed Marvel games ever do happen, they would likely be very far off.Insomniac has its hands full withMarvel’s Wolverine,Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, an untitled multiplayer game, and potentially moreRatchet and Clank.

Doctor Strange and Daredevil Offer Untapped Potential

Not only could Insomniac leverage the experience from its previous games to bring these two heroes to life, but the developer would have the benefit of exploring uncharted territory. Doctor Strange has yet to receive a big game that focuses on him despite having two successful MCU movies under his belt, instead appearing in ensemble games likeMarvel’s Midnight Suns. Though a high-profileDaredevil game almost happened during the PS2 era, it was scrapped, meaning the Man Without Fear is also in need of a game - one that would be especially timely given his incoming MCU debut. There are several Marvel games in the works focused on figures like Iron Man and Black Panther, but Doctor Strange and Daredevil have yet to have their moment. While there were great Spidey games before Insomniac, and even a strong Wolverine title, the studio could be the first to deliver hits based on Daredevil and Doctor Strange.
