At 53 years of age, Tony Hawk’s sole name evokes the very sports and video game legend that he is, and as the world’s most famous skateboarder gets ready to make an appearance at theOscars, he was not shy to remind everyone he’s also got a decent movie resume.
While theTony Hawk’s Pro Skaterfranchise had been on a steady decline even beforeDownhill Jamcame out, Hawk continued to be a pop culture icon in no small part thanks to his never-ending anecdotes of being confused by random strangers for “that famous skateboarder Tony Hawk.” However, the Birdman popped up in gamers’ minds again in 2020 due to the release ofTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 +2, and more recently thanks to yet another appearance in thecinematic masterpiece that isJackass Forever.

Of course, those are they types of movie cameos that Hawk promptly flaunted on Twitter to announce he’ll be part of the 94thOscarsthis Sunday. He notably took pride from his appearances inPolice Academy 4,Sharknado 5, and every singleJackassmovie. Those are far from his only TV or movie credits though, as the Hawk’s also showed up in plenty of other productions, often playing himself inshows likeThe SimpsonsandRocket Power, or nameless characters inCSI: Miami.
Hawk will be far from the only sports star to show up at the Oscars, as other X-Games legends such Shaun White and Kelly Slater, who can both claim video games bearing their names, also got invites. They even got invites beforeWest Side Storystar Rachel Zegler. Still, Hawk’s fans will be happy to see the GOAT on both feet only a few weeks after he suffered a broken femur injury.
Not that one would know that judging from Hawk’s Instagram account, as he’s already posted a couple of videos of himself slowly starting to walk again and even back up on a skateboard, meaning his ollying days are far from over. Elsewhere, on the video game front, Microsoft’s recent acquisition of the Activision-Blizzard conglomerate could also bring good news in the future for theTony Hawk’s Pro Skaterfranchise, and hopefully the company’s employees too.
Whether it’s popping up as the real “Skater Boy” in Avril Lavigne’s socials or continuing his own recent documentaryTony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off, there’s no amount of broken bones or kryptonite that can keep this Superman down.
The 94thOscarswill air on ABC on June 29, 2025, at 8:00 p.m.
