Last year, news leaked that Sony was working to make aTwisted Metalreboot game to coincide with the newTwisted MetalTV series starring Anthony Mackiecoming in 2023. At the time, the word was that theTwisted Metalreboot was being developed by Lucid Games, the studio behind the PS5 exclusive car combat gameDestruction AllStars. However, the latest report suggests Sony may be handing the reigns of theTwisted Metalreboot game over to a different studio.

VGC has reported that theTwisted Metalrebootis no longer in development at Lucid Games and is now being handled by one of Sony’s first-party studios in Europe. VGC’s sources didn’t specify which of Sony’s European studios may be working on theTwisted Metalreboot now, but at least one person believes thatDestruction AllStars' poor reviewsand general reception could be why Sony decided to make the switch. It should be noted that neither Sony nor Lucid Games has made any announcement about theTwisted Metalreboot, and so fans should take this information with a grain of salt until more official information becomes available.

Destruction AllStarshas failed to find an audiencesince launch, despite having been available as a free PlayStation Plus game for a two month period. It seems that many PlayStation 5 games are more interested in playing other titles than the new IP, casting the future of the car combat game in serious doubt.

As for theTwisted Metalreboot, not much is known about what it will entail. Previously, it was rumored that thenewTwisted Metalgame would be free-to-play, but now that Lucid Games is reportedly no longer behind the wheel, it’s unclear what direction it may take. If it’s truly aiming for release in 2023 alongside theTwisted MetalTV series, though, one has to imagine that more information will come sooner rather than later.

There are rumors that a new PlayStation event may be happening at some point soon, likely anotherPlayStation State of Play presentation. PlayStation uses these State of Play presentations to highlight its upcoming game releases, and it stands to reason that theTwisted Metalreboot will be announced at one of them. However, just as Sony hasn’t actually confirmed that a newTwisted Metalgame is in development, it also hasn’t said whether or not it will be hosting a new State of Play anytime soon.

For now,Twisted Metalfans should hang tight and keep their expectations in check.
