Get ready for more Vikings in video games. New developer Norsfell has revealed an action-packed trailer for its upcoming titleTribes of Midgard. The co-op action survival RPG is slated to launch later this summer.
The latest look at the game comes courtesy of theSummer Game Fest’s live kickoff show. The free livestream had numerous world premieres, teasers, and trailers for all types of video games, from aDeath Stranding: Director’s Cutannouncement to the first extended look at the massively anticipatedElden Ring.

Tribes of Midgardis set in a world full of dark creatures, hidden gods, and abundant materials and treasures to be discovered, as players take on the role of aMidgard Vikingliving in a village home to the Seed of Yggdrasil, Norse mythology’s tree of life which is the last bastion protecting the Gods from the other Realms. By day, players will explore the wilderness to hunt and collect materials to forge weapons, clothing, defenses, and other Viking gear. At night, dark spirits arise, and tribes must defend the seed to avert utter catastrophe. Each new day brings new lands, treasures, and possibilities, with the impending threat of giants looming as time goes on.
As revealed by the latest trailer,Tribes of Midgardfeatures a wide variety of environments rendered in a cel-shaded art style, looking like a more colorful and stylized version ofVikings: Wolves of Midgard. One of the more intriguing aspects ofTribes of Midgardis players' ability to squad up to 10 people, allowing for a more communal experience than other Viking titles likeAssassin’s Creed Valhalla. It’s currently unclear if players will be able to play with each other on the same console, or if it will be limited to online co-op exclusively.
As far as can be told by its website,Tribes of Midgardis Norsfell’s first-ever developed video game. The Canadian developer was actually one of the recipients ofEpic Games' $5 million grant giveaway, which was an initiative by theFortnitedeveloper to help up-and-coming game developers finance their projects made with Unreal Engine 4. Epic gave its grant recipients total creative freedom over their IP, and it’s looking like Norsfell’s initial offering may be a hit with top-down RPG fans.
WhileTribes of Midgardhas yet to go into granular detail about its mechanics, systems, and gameplay, fans are likely to hear latest entry in the exploding Viking genreover the coming weeks.
