Diablo 4is easily one of the most anticipated titles on the (relative) horizon. The next in the mainline series has already built up massive expectations, partly due to its extended development time and partly toDiablo’splace as the ultimate dungeon crawler to many fans. For the first time in the series' history though, there are multipleDiabloproperties in the works. Three games are on the way including the mobileDiablo Immortaland the remakeDiablo 2: Resurrected. Only one of the games has an established release date, and that says a lot about when fans should expect to seeDiablo 4.

It’s been more than four months since thelast update onDiablo 4. Back in February, fans were able to attend the all-digital BlizzConline presentation. The weekend-long event featured a lot of fanfare like the popularDnDstreaming showCritical Roleplaying aDiablo-themed one shot and some extensive dives into the upcoming games. Fans had hoped for news about an actual release date fromDiablo 4,and while that was absent, there was a presentation on the Rogue class. Overall, though, what fans know aboutDiablo 2can inform a little bit onDiablo 4and its release date.

Fans Shouldn’t Expect Much News About Diablo 4 Until After Diablo 2: Resurrected Launches

Of the threeDiablogames on the way, onlyDiablo 2: Resurrectedhas an official release date, with that being September 23 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The game is an ambitious project on its own, as remaking such a beloved game comes with loads of fan expectations. Blizzard seems to be banking on the game’s success after having dedicated so much of its BlizzConlineDiablosegments to the remake. They may be also hoping the game works as a panacea for fans that are chomping at the bit forDiablo 4.

This is probably a safe strategy in the modern era of remakes and remasters. It’s seemed like there’s at least one remake or remaster released at least each quarter for nearly a decade. At the very least, fans are definitely excited withcomparisons between the originalDiablo 2andResurrectedpopping up very frequently online.Diablo 2is a very expansive game, and could be just what fans need as they anxiously wait for new information aboutDiablo 4. With four out of its five starting classes announced and a larger dive into its new and more open world recently, fans are probably expectingDiablo 4news to come sooner rather than later.

It’s important to keep those expectations in check, though. WithDiablo Immortalalso slated for release this year, it’s likely that Blizzard wants each property to have enough time to breathe. While the initial announcement of a mobile-onlyDiablowas divisive among fans, the game seems to be shaping up to be a full-fledged experience. It’s likely that Blizzard will space the releases at least moderately. With so many properties on the way, it’s most likely that fans won’t get anymore news aboutDiablo 4until well after the remake ofDiablo 2releases later this year.
