Diablo 2: Resurrected, a remaster of the classic action RPG from 2000, has finally been released. The original release ofDiablo 2quickly became popular as players slew countless demons and explored the options that all of the game’s classes offered them. Now,Diablo 2: Resurrectedlets fans revisit the game with significantly improved graphics that look fantastic on modern gaming hardware.

However,Diablo 2: Resurrectedhas made changes from the original. On top of the graphical and auditory improvements, these include a cross-progression system that lets players continue the progress of their characters across multiple platforms, as well as improvements to the game’s stash system. Despite these improvements, there are some aspects of the game that could still be enhanced now that the remaster has released. This is especially true in that updates could add to the game and help give it even more longevity than its original release.

Diablo 2: Resurrected Could Add Cut Content

Every game has a lot of content that is tested or planned but is eventually cut, either because of time or budget. There is a lot ofconfirmed content that was cut fromDiablo 2, andDiablo 2: Resurrectedusing updates to add it to the game would be great for fans and new players alike. A lot of this cut content would help add a lot of variety and replayability inDiablo 2: Resurrected, such as new monsters like The Butcher and Elemental Demons. This also could include the many new items that were cut from the game such as unique weapons, elixirs, and herbs.

Perhaps the largest cut feature fromDiablo 2that could be a big addition toDiablo 2: Resurrectedis guilds. Guilds would allow players to create a guild after completing the game to invite their friends to, and could represent it with a custom banner. Players could then level up the guild to unlock new bonuses and features, while also having custom pieces of furniture like a message board, a vault, and a trophy case. Guilds being included inDiablo 2: Resurrected’s post-launch supportwould help bring players together while also adding to the game’s reward loop and progression systems.

Exploring New Campaigns In Diablo 2: Resurrected

Diablo 2: Resurrectedcould also add new campaigns or story content as well. WhileDiablo 3still receives seasonal updates and plenty of play from its dedicated fans, many fans may favor the gameplay ofDiablo 2: Resurrectedand will likely want to continue playing it even after they’ve explored all of the classes and completed the story multiple times. Blizzard releasing new campaigns or shorter stories for players to experience would serve these players excellently. These new campaigns could include some new loot, while also expanding and further exploring the world ofDiablowhile players anxiously wait formore information onDiablo 4.

This approach would also work very well thanks to how massive and detailed the world ofDiablois.Diablo’s titular antagonist has a lot of lorein his own right, but there are many other characters, lands, and threats that payers could explore and face off against in downloadable content. These could also be used to explore the areas of theDiabloworld that players haven’t seen very much of; like the tribalistic homelands of the different playable races, or even political struggles between the factions of humanity.

Of course, the new campaigns would have to be careful to not step on the toes of other titles within the series, but it could be a very interesting way to expand the world of the series. One strong option would be to even port the campaign from the firstDiablointo the game as a paid expansion so that players can see more of the core story of the series.

Adding More Ways To Play Diablo 2: Resurrected

Replayability is a massive part of what makesDiablo’s fanbase love the series so much, andDiablo 2: Resurrectedupdates could add even more ways to play the game to improve this. There are quite a few options that the developers could pursue, but one that would be very interesting is a challenge mode. A mode like this could change enemy spawns throughout the game that is built to challenge a very specific character build or party composition in the game for players to try and overcome.

A challenge run could see players having to slowly build aWhirlwind Barbarian inDiablo 2: Resurrectedjust to face encounters built to counter the build and having to restart completely if they fall to the demonic hordes. Then, players who complete it could get a unique cosmetic item, banner, or trophy to display in-game to let other players know that they completed the feat of tackling the challenge.

Another new mode could bring some more randomness to the game with players running through procedurally generated bosses or boss gauntlets while having to adapt to new builds or sets of equipment with each level or boss. This could also net the player unique rewards while pushing them to experiment and try outall ofDiablo 2: Resurrected’s classes, as they have to adapt to their randomly generated build and gear set. A mode like this could also play very well into the current popularity of rogue-likes by having players trying to complete runs even with poor character builds.

Regardless of what Blizzard decides to do withDiablo 2: Resurrectedmoving forward, now is undoubtedly an exciting time to be aDiablofan. The developers have already confirmed thatDiablo 2: Resurrectedwill receive Nvidia DLSS supportin the future, so hopefully, the team is considering more gameplay additions for updates as well. The game has received a lot of positive reception around its release, and it would be fantastic if the developers behind the team can capitalize on that and continue to support the new release well into the future.

Diablo 2: Resurrectedis available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
