Between the events ofDestiny 2’s previous Season of Plunder and the current Season of Seraph, the wildcard warlock Osiris has been revived. Scattered throughout the recent seasonal storylines and the Witch Queen expansion, it is known that he was impersonated by Savathun, while Osiris was indisposed, for a series of infiltrations of the Vanguard. With Savathun currently out of the picture and Osiris’ recent return, theDestiny 2community is still waiting to hear about Osiris’ side of the encounters, especially information about Savathun’s knowledge of the Darkness.

The standardized method ofDestiny 2’s storytelling between major expansions has been through seasonal-exclusive storylines and complimentary lore entries. Season 18, the Season of Plunder, focused on connecting the dots of existing lore from the last major expansion, Beyond Light. The finale of Season 18, however, alluded to Osiris and Savathun’s connection to Neptune – the major setting for the upcoming Lightfall expansion. Seemingly putting this Neptune reveal on hold,Season 19 meanwhile reintroduces Rasputin, Clovis Bray, and Xivu Arath, preparing additional storylines to converge in the Lightfall expansion, meanwhile leaving many questions unanswered.

Savathun and Osiris' Connection to Strand and Neptune

Season of Plunder’s brief yet substantial conclusion strongly hints that Savathun’s power from Neptune is Strand and that Osiris, while under foreign influence, retained enough coherence to passively spectate Savathun’s schemes. While theWitch Queen expansion revealed Savathun’s discoveriesas she was impersonating Osiris, it is still unknown the extent of Osiris' discoveries during that timeframe. Osiris' employment as Savathun’s emissary very well could have already sent him to Neptune, explaining his knowledge of the Darkness there, as disclosed by Saint-14.

During preparation for the Witch Queen expansion, the fall of Osiris was documented in the web lore entry, “Immolant pt. 2.” The entry describes Osiris attempting to take on the remaining children of Crota with only his Ghost, Sagira, ultimately failing against the power ofthe hive war god Xivu Arath, Savathun’s sister. Xivu was able to stop Osiris from slaughtering the hive family by using a power described as thread-like magic that suppresses Light, and during this attack on Osiris, his Light was permanently lost, as well as the sacrifice of his Ghost so that he would survive to later become Savathun’s puppet. As a prominent member of Savathun’s family, Xivu Arath appears to already be using the Strand and is likely to make an appearance in Lightfall given this history with Osiris and meanwhile relevance in numerous seasons' stories.

TheDestiny 2Lightfall trailer premiere at the 2022 Game Awardsfeatures Osiris alongside brief gameplay of the guardians' Strand subclass. The trailer’s emphasis on Osiris, as the main character of the Guardians’ awaited venture to Neptune, supports the established connections between Osiris, Strand, and Neptune. His absence of Light provides the perfect opportunity for the historically power-hungry Osiris to pursue Strand powers of Darkness in the Lightfall expansion. As a past mentor, Osiris is in a position to be the vessel for guardians obtaining Strand, similar to how another mentor, the Exo Stranger, was the vessel for obtaining Stasis in the Beyond Light Expansion.

From the newest trailer, Strand used by guardians looks a lot like Stasis, the existingsubclass that derives power from the Darkness. Appearing to behave the same way as Xivu Arath’s powers are described in the lore of Osiris' capture, Strand’s offensive powers are all about suppressing and suspending affected targets, a common theme for the Darkness so far. Osiris’ anticipated relationship with the Darkness will further the ongoing narrative emphasized in the Beyond Light expansion, and subsequent seasons, which blurs the line between Light and Dark vital to the Vanguard’s desperate future.

Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
