Summary

When Monolith announced aWonder Womangame was in the works at the Game Awards in 2021, several DC Comics fans were incredibly excited. Unfortunately, over the past few years, the studio has been relatively quiet about how far along the game is. Nearly two years have passed now and there’s still almost no information on the AAAWonder Womantitle.

Regardless of the lack of updates, the brief teaser trailer from the game’s announcement shows promise. The quality of the character model for Wonder Woman appears to be on par with, if not better than, Monolith’s visuals in itsMiddle-earthgames. It’s possibleWonder Womanwill reveal new information soon, considering the alleged concept art that was uncovered in August.

Monolith’s Wonder Woman Could Be Set in the Distant Future

While there are rumors thatMonolith is developing several DC games, the spotlight is still firmly centered on whether there’s been considerable progress onWonder Woman.Interestingly, the leaked art that could be from the game itself comes from what is likely a trustworthy source. Just a few weeks ago, a senior motion capture technician from Monolith by the name of James Gentile uploaded a new banner to his LinkedIn account. This art featured Wonder Woman at the forefront of two other individuals preparing to engage in battle.

Though it hasn’t been confirmed if this never-before-seen art is from the game, or perhaps part of the cover art, it’s probable. Shortly after the art piece began circulating internet forums, theWonder Womandeveloperremoved it from the profile, perhaps suggesting it wasn’t meant to be shared this early. Intriguingly, if this artwork is based on the game, it gives people a good idea as to what is happening in the storyline.

To Wonder Woman’s right appears to be a female warrior holding a shield emblazoned with a golden star. While it’s possible she’s a new side character, some have postulated that she could be Nubia, a long-time ally of Diana and DC Comics' first black female superhero.Nubia also hails from Themiscyraand actually becomes their queen while Hippolyta is away with the Justice League. Given the premise, it’s reasonable to assume that at least a portion of this open-world game will feature the island nation of the Amazons. This idea is further solidified by the trailer when Diana’s mother says “My daughter, a new threat comes to our shores and I must call you home.”

At the moment, the identity of the woman on the left side of Wonder Woman is anyone’s guess. Some have theorized that she’s a female version of Steve Trevor whereas others believe she’s an entirely new character. In spite of not knowing exactly who she is, it’s her armor that’s of interest to most. The gray metallic-appearing armor has a very futuristic look to it, similar to the MJOLNIR PoweredAssault Armor in theHalofranchise.

If the various panels and layers in the suit are technologically advanced, theWonder Womangame could take place in a futuristic version of Earth. It’s also probable that this woman comes from a region that has technologically surpassed the rest of humanity. Hopefully,Monolith will announce news regardingWonder Womanthat can help eager fans work out what the storyline may be. Seeing as the two-year anniversary ofWonder Woman’s reveal is coming up, now is as good a time as ever to set an official release date.

Monolith Studios’Wonder Womangame is currently in development.
