Summary

World of Warcraft’s new Seafarer Pack cosmetic bundle might be a huge hint as to what the next expansion could be about. This collection of cash shop items share a loose theme that, ifWorld of Warcraftfollows precedent, could tease where the game could go in the future.

The Seafarer Pack is a bundle of fourcollectibleWorld of Warcraftitemsplayers can buy from the cash shop for $27.49. The full pack includes the Dreadwake pirate ship mount, as well as three pets: Tottle the mini Tortollan, Cap’n Crackers the pirate parrot, and Dottie the alpaca. However, fans couldn’t help but notice these items all shared a common theme. The Dreadwake and Cap’n Crackers are both obviously related to pirates. Meanwhile, alpacas like Dottie are often used by the wayfaring Vulpera, and Tortollans like Tottle are known for traveling far and wide learning and sharing stories. While the exploratory theme of the Seafarer Pack makes sense given the name, many players suspect the bundle could be a subtle hint as to what thenextWorld of Warcraftexpansion could be.

Similar shop bundles have actually teased futureWorld of Warcraftexpansions in the past. In December 2021,WoWoffered the Dragon Pack– a big batch of dragon-themed mounts and pets – only for it to reveal theDragonflightexpansion a few months later in April 2022. While that may not be the case this time, many players expectWorld of Warcraftto announce its next expansion at BlizzCon in early November, so the timeline would be pretty similar.

This isn’t the only thing players have seen that would suggest a seafaring expansion. Lore text fromDragonflighthas given hints towards several plot points that would fit well in a watery expansion, including an elusive Night Elf dread pirate captain, a mysterious island called Avaloren, and the return of Queen Azshara, afan-favoriteWorld of Warcraftvillain.

In the meantime, it appearsWorld of Warcraftmay be going to the Emerald Dreamto protect the new World Tree from the Primal Incarnates in Patch 10.2. The update doesn’t have a name or release date yet, but many players expect to learn more some time after Patch 10.1.7 drops on September 5. Until then, players can only speculate as to whereWorld of Warcraftwill go next.
