World of Warcraftis allowing players to craft the highly-coveted Tier 3 armor sets in Patch 10.1.5, but not everyone is happy about the change. The original Naxxramas was the culmination of the Plaguelands storyline, and the final frontier for vanilla raiders to overcome. ThisiconicWorld of Warcraftraidwas remastered forWrath of the Lich Kingto serve as the Tier 7 instance, and due to the way Blizzard’s content philosophy worked at the time, it meant the old version had to go.
Over the years, Tier 3 became something of a status symbol forWorld of Warcraftplayers, as they had no means of obtaining it after the launch of Patch 3.0. It wasn’t untilMists of Pandariaadded the extremely niche Black Market Auction House that new characters were able to own Tier 3 armor, with bids often exceeding millions of gold. Though Tier 7 was itself a recolor of the old Naxxramas sets, many players preferred the original color schemes – especially forWorld of Warcraftclassessuch as Mage or Shaman.

In an effort to make old transmogs available to newcomers, as well as implement long-requested weapons such as Gorehowl, Patch 10.1.5 ofDragonflightis adding a way for players to obtain a full set of Tier 3 for all nine original classes through crafting. The news was shared by Shenray on the officialWorld of Warcraftsubreddit, and while many fans are excited about the change, some are arguing that it feels like a heavy slap to players who earned it back in the day, or even those who paid exorbitant sums of gold to assemble their Tier 3 set.
The recipes will need to be obtained in Naxxramas, and will require separate farming for old materials such as Dark Rune and Essence of Undeath. Thoughcross-realm trade is now possible inWorld of Warcraft, players should expect the price of those ingredients to skyrocket in the coming weeks. Two new materials are also being added as requirements, namely Wartorn Scrap and Phylacterweave, and it can be assumed that they’ll likely drop in Naxxramas as well. The final ingredient is a Righteous Orb, obtained from the Scarlet Crusade in Stratholme.
With the continuedexpansion of the trading post inWorld of Warcraft, the majority of players felt it was only a matter of time until Tier 3 became more readily available. The crafting angle has certainly caught everyone by surprise, but many would agree that it’s a superior method of acquisition. While Blizzard should have ideally never removed old Naxxramas from the game, this solution for a seventeen-year-old set may end up being the healthiest one in the long run.
