If there’s a thing that frustrates even the most patientWorld of Warcraftplayer, it’s that there’s always that one mount that can’t seem to drop even after years of farming, and many fans are asking Blizzard to take a closer look at improving the mount grind.Dragonflighthas made it easier for players to obtain those elusiveWarlords of DraenorandMists of Pandariaworld boss mounts, but many coveted mounts such as Ashes of Al’ar or Invincible still remain under the mercy of a low drop rate, time-gated through the weekly raid reset.

While much of thedeveloper focus inDragonflighthas been on Dragonriding, Blizzard was still very much interested in sprinkling normal mounts all throughout the Dragon Isles.World of Warcraftplayers can purchase Ottuk mounts using jewelry found inDragonflight’s dungeon and raid instances, providing a unique and guaranteed way to obtain a stylish new mount. Though the Trading Post inWorld of Warcraftis also emerging as a new avenue for players to grow their stable, it’s the Ottuk merchant that perhaps provides the perfect template for Blizzard to build upon.

The initial suggestion posted by Shr00mBaloon on the officialWorld of Warcraftsubreddit championed for the addition of a bad luck protection mechanic for obtaining the rarest mounts in the game. Namely, each failure to obtain the mount after killing the boss whose loot table it was tied to would increase the drop chances for that player character. While this would work wonders for obtaining mounts under a daily loot reset, it would only make a marginal difference for mounts that drop fromWorld of Warcraftbosses adhering to a weekly reset.

An alternative way to make the grind easier forrareWorld of Warcraftmountswas also suggested in the Reddit thread, and much like the Ottuk merchant in Iskaara, the concept was about allowing players to purchase the mount outright for tokens procured from the relevant instance. As things stand, it may take aWorld of Warcraftplayer several hundred weeks to finally get their Invincible mount, but if those same characters earned a token for clearing the Lich King, then under the suggested system, they’d be able to turn in those tokens and buy Invincible for fifty (or even a hundred) pieces of the new currency.

It’s a system of acquisition thatFinal Fantasy 14mounts employ to considerable success, and given thatDragonflight’s revamped professions take a lot of inspiration from thecrafting jobs inFinal Fantasy 14, Blizzard is not averse to borrowing features that work from its competitors. While players have astutely pointed out that there’s no real incentive for the developers to cut back on the mount grind, many also agree that a guaranteed way of obtaining rare mounts would makeWorld of Warcrafta more enjoyable experience overall.
