Summary

Over a month after the launch ofWorld of Warcraft Classic Hardcoreservers, Blizzard shared the top 10 ways that players have met their end in-game, with gravity taking the top spot on the list of dubious deaths. Since the release of Classic Hardcore servers forWorld of Warcraft, nearly 3 million player characters have fallen, with a reported mortality rate of one death per 1.5 seconds around the clock.

Unlike standard servers forWorld of Warcraft, death is permanent in Classic Hardcore mode. Players that fall in battle, or fall to their untimely demise, can continue using the game’s chat features as a ghost. Alternatively, they can transfer to a Classic Eraserver to continue playing as their character outside of Classic Hardcore mode. Within the first day, nearly 100 thousandWorld of Warcraftplayer characters died. While enemies such as Wendigos and Kobolds made the top 10 list, they were not the only way players saw their tragic ends.

In a four-minute YouTube video, Blizzard revealed the top 10 waysWorld of Warcraft Classic Hardcoreplayers died since the servers went live. With a death toll of 2,961,039 and counting at the time of writing, Blizzard stated that falling off a cliff or landing face-first into the “elevator boss” of places such as Thunder Bluff and The Undercity was the leading cause of player deaths in Classic Hardcore mode. The list includesfoes that killedWorld of Warcraftplayers within the first week, such as Kobold Miners and Voidwalker Minions. In addition, six of the top 10 causes of death were in the Alliance starting areas of Elwynn Forest, Dun Morogh, and Westfall.

Despite PvP being disabled by default in Classic Hardcore mode, the Mak’gora duels made the list. Theseduels to the death inWorld of Warcrafthave become a popular way of settling disputes between players, and give players a buff that shows their body count for others to take notice. However, between drowning and falling to their death, the natural environment of Azeroth itself is the deadliest enemy of WoW players. While some classes such as the shaman and warlock have ways to counter drowning, not every class has a way of countering an untimely demise.

With BlizzCon 2023 right around the corner, theWarcraftseries is slated to get the most newsat the convention. Only time will tell what awaits Classic Hardcore players in the future.
