A ton of new information about Microsoft’s next-gen console, theXbox Series X, has been shared since the console’s reveal duringThe Game Awards 2019. Fans and detractors alike are curious about what Xbox is planning for its large rectangular cuboid console. The Xbox Series X’s shape has a very specific purpose, of course. And it’s not just to hold the console’s impressive hardware. It’s also to keep the console cool and quiet. Xbox boss Phil Spencer is even willing to go on record describing how quite the Xbox Series X will be.

In an interview with GameSpot, Spencer described just how quiet theXbox Series Xconsole will be. According to Spencer, the Xbox Series X matches “how quiet the Xbox One X” is. For those unfamiliar, the Xbox One X utilizes a single-fan structure to create a low-temperature state within the console. This is amazing both for heat management and noise management. While noise levels as idling are low, comparable to general noise levels in a room, even at high performance loads it maintains a noise level between a whisper and a refrigerator.

The Xbox Series X maintainsXbox One X-levels of noiseby implementing a similar structure. As Spencer describes, “What the team did, and you [see] it through the top grate, is we went with on central fan in the design.” Obviously, the Xbox Series X is significantly different than the Xbox One X. But Microsoft clearly believes that the Xbox Series X’s new shape, as well as the single-fan structure of the Xbox One X, will allow them to increase performance significantly while not raising heat or noise, too.

Spencer is very much excited about the design of the console and confidently mentions that he has an Xbox Series X at home as he’s able in recent interviews. “It just sits there and plays video games the way I want it to and I never hear it, just like how I don’t hear my [Xbox One] X,” is howSpencercharacterizes it.

The Xbox Series X is much more than just its size and noise levels, of course. It will be the most powerful Xbox console ever by around 2x, it will have anSSD that may “virtually” eradicate loading times, it’ll support full backward compatibility with the Xbox One (and thousands of digital Xbox 360 and Xbox games), and more. Still, the console has only just been revealed and potential buyers are still learning about Xbox’s next-gen console. Every detail helps. So far, the details are pretty impressive.
