Summary

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueis nearly a month out from launch and is unfortunately suffering from early story leaks. The game hasn’t ever been safe from leaks, with many claiming to know who new playable characters will be when they arrive in post-launch seasonal DLCs. Many characters would make incredible candidates for their prominence in the Arkhamverse and their adaptability toSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s shooter gameplay, and some have been leading contenders on Task Force X wish lists sinceArkham Knightreleased almost nine years ago.

Leaks have unfortunately made some characters seemingly more viable as DLC than others, but until more is concretely revealed or confirmed a lot is still left to speculation. Rocksteady and WB Games Montreal have crafted a fascinating universe with a bottomless well to draw from for character inspiration, and seeing any characters reappear from eitherArkham Asylum,Arkham City,Arkham Origins, orArkham KnightinSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewould be excellent. That said, justifying one flesh-carving antagonist may be simpler and more hysterical than many others Rocksteady might choose.

Zsasz Has a Deep, Unresolved History in Rocksteady’s Arkhamverse

Unlike many antagonists in theArkhamfranchise,Zsasz managed to slip away and evade Batman and the GCPD’s clutches. Zsasz holds a special place in the Arkhamverse continuity with appearances in each RocksteadyArkhamgame, in fact, though these appearances have each varied in terms of their importance and prominence.

Interestingly, Zsasz is actually the first antagonist whom players subdue inArkham Asylumduring a tutorial teaching players how to grapple between gargoyle perches and glide-kick unsuspecting enemies. This isn’t successful, however, and Batman ends up needing to hurl a batarang at him from around the corner of a doorway when he takes Dr. Young hostage in Warden Quincy Sharp’s office.

Players can even get to know him a bit better and learn about how brutally homicidal he is if they take the time to collectZsasz’s patient interview tapes inArkham Asylum. Zsasz then reappears inArkham Cityand has a fairly large role in a side quest that is chiefly composed of timed races to different payphones before attempting to triangulate Zsasz’s location while listening to him lament about his life story. Zsasz is apprehended at the end of the quest with Batman arriving in time to rescue a handful of Arkham City’s political prisoners, and while Zsasz does have a final appearance inArkham Knightit isn’t necessarily a ceremonious or satisfyingly conclusive one.

Players can see three of his victims posed on a rooftop as well as Zsasz himself on a surveillance camera in Gotham City, but he is not pursued or seen thereafter aside from these obscure nods. Therefore, Zsasz is certainly capable of coming back in some capacity, and becominga playable DLC character inSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewould honor and round out his villainous role exceedingly well.

Zsasz’s Sadomasochism and Brutality Could Balance Out Task Force X’s Humor

Pairing Zsasz with Task Force X would be hilarious since none of them share his psychotic tendencies and they’d need to constantly endure him making uncomfortable comments that Harley and Boomerang would surely poke fun at. As it stands right now,the base-game Task Force X rosteris full of characters who are all sassy, witty, and have comparable senses of humor, and throwing someone naturally serious and melodramatic into that mixture would allow for some spectacular dysfunction.

Indeed, it seems likeSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueis more concerned about trying to make Task Force X likable and funny rather than remind players that these characters are supposed to be deplorable menaces, and forcing them to share scenes with Zsasz would be a salient reminder of which circles they truly belong to. Plus, Zsasz could conceivably wield an assortment of guns alongside Harley and the rest of Task Force X with his signature melee weapon being a pair of knives or maybe a machete to differentiate him from King Shark a bit. As for Zsasz’s unique means of traversal, Rocksteady would need to get creative with whose superhero or supervillain gear he’s given.
